College Application Process

Step 1- Research colleges for academic, financial, and personality fit. Look for test requirements, course requirements, priority deadlines for scholarship consideration, etc.

  • Attend college rep visits 
  • Attend on-campus tours on college campus
  • Meet with the College and Career Center

Step 2 - Complete applications to the colleges of your choice and locate their admissions checklist. Note the deadlines imposed by the college, and plan ahead by two-four weeks. Start a calendar for deadlines.

Step 3 - Order your SAT/ACT scores to be sent to your colleges from the testing website.

Step 4 - Request Teacher & Counselor letters of recommendation (if required by the college) at least 10 school days ahead of deadlines. Keep in mind school holidays when making the request. Most forms/letters are electronic and students will need to “invite” their Teacher and/or Counselor via their GCSS email.

Step 5 - Visit www.parchment.com to order your official transcript to be sent to your colleges. Request at least 10 school days ahead of deadlines.

Step 6 - Fill out the FAFSA and research other scholarship opportunities

Step 7 - Request your Mid-Year Report (if required - mostly Common Application colleges) in January by emailing your Counselor.
